Hungarians achieved success at the 2023 European Tram Driver Championship. Representing our country at the competition held in Nagyvárad (Oradea), were the DKV Debreceni Közlekedési Zrt. and the Szegedi Közlekedési Társaság. 19 countries and 25 teams competed for the championship title.

The Debrecen team participated in the European Championship for the first time, which started ten years ago. Two talented young individuals, Tekla Hartyányi and Martin Borsos, represented the city. Both of these young talents are 23 years old and have been working as tram drivers for the company for two years. Thus, the employees of DKV Zrt. were the youngest competitors in the entire field.

On the competition track, the drivers had to solve driving technique and skill tasks that required intense concentration within a relatively short period of time. It was important to accurately assess the vehicle's speed and initiate braking in a timely manner. Cooperation among the tram drivers was crucial during the task completion as they had to support each other.

Our competitors finished in the middle of the pack at the Nagyvárad competition, but they managed to surpass numerous tram drivers with decades of experience.

Considering the knowledge gained from this experience, it is possible that the DKV tram driver duo will once again take up the challenge at the international competition among nations next year.
